Housing for heating element will not seat all the way back into vent hole.

The front bracket does not line up with bolt holes that it was originally mounted in. However, the housing unit seems like it is as far in the vent hole as it can go.

Hello. There is a usually a steel retainer clip mounted at the top rear of the heater box assembly that has to fit inside the mouth of the vent hole(inside the dryer). This clip is prevents the heater box from accidentally being jarred loose and causing a fire hazard. To insert the heater box properly it can be tricky--you must lift up on the front of the box which will lower the rear, shove forward and possibly twist it back and forth some till you feel the rounded end of the box slide inside the mouth of the vent. OBVIOUSLY, THE BREAKER IS OFF AND/OR THE POWER CORD IS UNPLUGGED PRIOR TO ANY OF THIS. The box has thermal fuses mounted on the side and there is always 120v there if it is plugged in. When the dryer is in operation, the second 120v supply leg is applied making the coil heat, using a total of 240v. Before you try to insert the heater box, use a headlight to see the clip, vent hole, and surrounding area so you can both feel and visualize what you are doing--BE CAREFUL--THE INTERIOR OF DRYERS ARE FULL OF UNFINISHED METAL EDGES--I liken it to putting your hands inside a box of razor blades, lol! I hope I helped you!
